It works with a wide variety of mouthpieces, and you can use it for classical or jazz. This horn has a big sound, tonally medium between bright and dark, and tunes easily. This is the original, pro horn that is equivalent in sound and quality to the highly coveted YSS-62 sopranos. You should also note, this is a much better horn than the modern intermediate models called Yamaha 62-II or 62-III. And if what you like is a horn that feels more complex tonally, tunes great, is well-made, and is super easy to play, then this is probably what you should buy. This is an 80’s model, which is the best vintage for buying a 62. The Yamaha 62 tenor was Yamaha’s top of the line model when this horn was made.
